People were scared and surprised by how quickly the water rose, and there was one death. Several of the most low-lying houses experienced major flooding damage, but a nearby elevated home did not. People still complained, but interest in home elevation rose sharply. Most of the damaged homes were rebuilt (and elevated), although one family left.

Elevated homes experienced far less damage than nearby non-elevated homes, and interest in the grant program is through the roof, with a long waiting list!
