Game of Floods - Windy Point

Welcome to the Town Council! Help make Windy Point more Resilient!

Part 3: Make Windy Point More Resilient!

You have just been elected to the town council!  You and your fellow councilors must agree on a resilience plan for Windy Point that addresses the flooding challenges, while staying within your budget.  You will have to advocate for your character's priorities, while also learning about the needs of others on the council and then coming to agreement.

Assignment: Follow the steps below.

Step One:

Select one or more of the possible actions below to make Windy Point more resilient to the threat of flooding! You may not go over your budget.

On your worksheet, be sure to record the actions you chose and any funds that remain.

Rezone + Grants

Cost: $$$$$$ (6)

Rezone as described above, plus offer a grant program to help homeowners pay for it!  This would be expensive, but also the fastest way to protect the most homes.

Build an Offshore Breakwater

Cost: $$$$$ (5)

Offshore breakwaters are very expensive to build and maintain, but can be more environmentally friendly than sea walls.  The proposed rubble mound breakwater would protect Windy Point during storms by dissipating wave energy.

Possible Action Combos:

Public Education: $ (1)

Rezone: $ (1)

Rezone + Grants: $$$$$$ (6)

Breakwater: $$$$$ (5)

Public Education + Rezone: $$ (2)

Public Education + Breakwater: $$$$$$ (6)

Rezone + Breakwater: $$$$$$ (6)
