Grant Program

The beach is almost gone and the water has gotten higher, and despite the flood-proofing all three buildings are now extremely exposed.  Some of the owners are looking to sell.  It clearly won’t last forever, but your investment in flood-proofing those properties bought you several more decades of keeping them intact and on the town’s property tax rolls.

Build a Seawall

The rebuilt seawall is crumbling, and the beach has long since eroded away.  The waterfront buildings experience flood damage almost every year, and one is derelict – a real eyesore!  With the loss of the beach as a tourist attraction, the downtown is in decline.

Managed Retreat

The beach is still a centerpiece of the town, and everyone loves the views and the open access – people are surprised to learn there used to be buildings there.  The beach does shrink every winter due to storms and needs more sand, but the dunes play a key role stabilizing the area and protecting areas farther inland.  The decision to replace the buildings with dunes was expensive at the time, but it really saved the beach.

Beach Nourishment + Grants

The beach would be gone without the annual beach nourishment, and the water has gotten higher.  Despite the flood-proofing all three buildings are now extremely exposed.  Some of the owners are looking to sell.  It clearly won’t last forever, but your investment in flood-proofing those properties bought you several more decades of keeping them intact and on the town’s property tax rolls.

Grants + Seawall

The rebuilt seawall is crumbling, the waterfront buildings experience flood damage almost every year, and one is derelict – a real eyesore!  The elevated building was fine for a while, but has also fallen into disrepair.  The beach has long since eroded away, and with the loss of the beach as a tourist attraction, the downtown is in decline.
