Seal Watch/Seal Population Study Teacher Workshop & Cruise

In the classroom, we’ll use Project O’s long-term seal dataset to study how the seal population in Fisher’s Island Sound is affected by environmental variables related to weather. Aboard the Envirolab, we’ll conduct a seal population study at four different locations and collect environmental data.

About Event

Project Oceanology invites you to join one of our teacher workshop and cruise!

Project O makes it easy for teachers to incorporate exciting, hands-on, inquiry based learning experiences into their curricula. At these workshops you'll learn how our programs align with the Next Generation Science Standards and how our pre- and post- curricular materials can be used to build your Project O experience into an NGSS-aligned unit. Afterwards, you’ll live the experience yourself aboard our fully equipped research vessel on Long Island Sound! You’ll leave with curricular materials and lesson plans to take back to your classroom.

Aboard the R/V Envirolab, we’ll conduct a seal population study at four different locations and collect environmental data. We’ll also spend time observing and recording behaviors of these fascinating seasonal visitors.
