A week long day camp of hands-on, minds-on marine science. Get immersed in all the elements of marine science - biology, chemistry, geology and physics. Cruise the waters of Long Island Sound and do oceanographic research. Study tidal marshes, rocky intertidal zones, sandy beaches and near-shore marine life. Take the data and samples you collect and make scientific discoveries in our modern research labs.

Participants in Ocean Explorer Academy must have COMPLETED either 4th, 5th or 6th grade. Each session typically has 18 students in attendance. On Fridays, the last day of the camp, families are invited to come out on the Enviro-lab for an afternoon and share the learning that has taken place during the week at camp.

Project Oceanology has applied for a grant with the Connecticut State Department of Education to provide tuition and transportation for students to participate in this program from the following school districts: Bozrah, Colchester, East Lyme, Franklin, Groton, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Old Saybrook, Preston, Region 18, Salem, Sprague, Stonington, Voluntown, Waterford and Windham. Tuition fee is $450 if grant funds are not received.

Sample daily schedule:
9:00 morning assembly
9:30 field work at Bluff Point, Bushy Point Beach or Avery Point Beach
12:00 lunch, usually in the field
12:30 pm continued field work at beaches or in laboratories
3:30 parents pick up
